In a groundbreaking development, the UK government has officially granted retrofitted Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) an exemption from the 20% VAT, effective from 1 February 2024. This is great news for the millions of homeowners in the UK who already have solar panels installed and will now be able to dramatically increase their solar savings by retrofitting solar battery technology, now with 0% VAT on their investment.  

Ian & Cath Ratcliffe recently invested in a solar array to power their farm, but they quickly became frustrated as they couldn’t use all the energy it generates. By investing in 3 x 12kWh Powervault P4 batteries, they are now able to store their excess energy and save it for later. This reduces their energy bills, allows them to better monitor their energy usage, and brings them closer to their aim of increased energy self-sufficiency.

Toward the end of 2022, Melissa and Richard Darke of Coleridge farm invested in a Powervault smart battery storage system so they could make better use of the renewable energy they generate on site, reduce their energy bills, and simultaneously improve the eco rating of their farm. Smart electricity storage company Powervault has announced that it has closed a scale-up investment round of £3.8 million from existing ands new investors, including Green Angel Syndicate and its Climate Change Fund. This equity investment round has triggered the conversion of £3.1 million in Loan Notes raised in 2020 under the British Business Bank’s Future Fund structure.
