This customer has high energy usage in his 3-bedroomed home and was interested in buying an electric car. He had solar panels with a capacity of 4.46kW installed, and was keen to find additional ways of optimising his energy consumption and reducing his bills with a home battery storage system.

Despite his high energy consumption, being new to solar batteries, the customer was keen to start small, so the team at Powervault recommended having a 4kWh P3 installed alongside his existing solar. At the same time, the customer switched to the Octopus Go time-of-use tariff.

The team also explained to the customer how using SMARTSTOR would enable him to maximise his energy savings without having to worry about scheduling the battery himself – the software would do it all for him.

After 1 year, the customer had seen his electricity bill drop to £1,000, a saving of £2,000 compared to what he would have paid without solar + battery on his previous tariff. This was despite him increasing his electricity consumption by buying an electric car. In the summer he pays very little above the daily standing charge, and is pleased to say he even has the occasional off-grid day!

The customer’s only regret is that he didn’t buy a bigger battery at the time, which would enable him to maximise his energy usage even further.
